Do you remember? In the first day of the Women's College World Series, both Alabama and Nebraska advanced on their side of the bracket. Alabama beat UCLA 6-3, while Nebraska needed extra innings to get past Arkansas 5-3 a little bit later on in the night. It is only fitting they will be facing each other on Saturday evening in Oklahoma City. Has Will Compton realized that Nebraska did not win it all yet?
He may be bullish on his alma mater's softball team, but this is the epitome of bulletin-board material.
"What a time to be a Cornhusker. Congratulations to Husker Softball and thank you for allowing me to wake up a National Champion."
Let's just say the last little bit of this is what may get him in trouble. Patrick Murphy can make him pay.

While Nebraska need to play a little while longer than Alabama did, it was the Crimson Tide who stopped a nasty streak for Murphy and his program. Prior to defeating UCLA on Thursday night, Alabama had lost 13 in a row when trailing by multiple runs in the Women's College World Series. With that monkey finally off their back, look for Alabama to play unencumbered softball vs. Nebraska next.
And since Oklahoma fans do not care for Nebraska, now is the time to get on the Bama bandwagon!
Will Compton prematurely crowns Nebraska as this year's WCWS champs
No matter what happens on Saturday evening between the Crimson Tide and the Cornhuskers, both of them will get to play at least one more game after this upcoming one. The winner of Alabama vs. Nebraska will face either Arkansas, Tennessee, Texas Tech, or UCLA for the right to play in the finals. The loser will face the winner of Mississippi State vs. Texas in a win-or-go-home situation for both.
To be frank, Murphy and his team need to remain locked in to put themselves into as advantageous of a spot as possible. One more win will put the Crimson Tide right up the cusp of playing for a national championship. The winner of Alabama vs. Nebraska needs to lose twice before it wins another game to be eliminated. During the championship finals, it resets to a best-of-three for both teams involved.

Overall, this just might be the most wide-open Women's College World Series in recent memory. Juggernaut Oklahoma is not taking part in this event. Mississippi State, who just lost to Texas Tech 8-0 in five innings on Thursday, occupies their spot in the field of eight. Those Bulldogs are so happy to be here, but every game's outcome will matter at this point. The intensity will amp up with every pitch.
Ultimately, we are talking about two of the better programs in the sport going at it with a ton of experience at this stage of the postseason. While the Mississippi States of the world may quickly bow out of the Women's College World Series, it will be up to the Alabamas and the Nebraskas to take advantage of Oklahoma not being part of it this spring. Only one team can win it all, so why not Bama?
Even if Alabama does beat Nebraska, the Cornhuskers will still have a shot of redemption afterwards.
