Even the optimistic Crimson Tide fan knows the Alabama offense will be a work in progress. At quarterback and on the offensive line, the Crimson Tide will not be a finished product in September games. Progress will be made during Fall Camp as the Tide's offensive players scrimmage against a better defense than any team on the schedule until Georgia. Still, there will be growing pains.
Alabama lacks returning production on offense, but the Crimson Tide is not lacking in talent. The Punt and Rally site provides a ranking of Roster Talent, different than traditional Blue-Chip Ratio calculations. In the site's rankings, Alabama is ranked higher than championship contenders Notre Dame and Ohio State. Alabama is ranked No. 4 among all FBS teams, below only Texas, Georgia, and Oregon.
The Punt and Rally site is not bullish on Alabama's projected record. It has the Crimson Tide going 8-4 in the regular season. The site's Power Rankings credit Alabama with college football's No. 9 defense, but only the No. 24 offense. For comparison, Bill Connelly's SP+ rankings project the Crimson Tide with the FBS' No. 32 offense. According to the site, coaching is a strength for the Crimson Tide, with the Alabama staff ranked No. 4 in the FBS.
Optimism for Alabama Crimson Tide Offense
The 2026 schedule gives the Crimson Tide a considerable advantage. Despite the expected growing pains, Alabama should go into Georgia week at 5-0. At the least, Alabama's offensive prowess will be higher on Oct. 10 than it will be on Sept. 5. Realistically, the offense will need significant improvement to prevent Alabama from losing more than one game during the Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and LSU run of tough opponents.
What will happen during Fall Camp and the first few weeks of the season? My take is the 'cream will rise to the top' in the Tide's offensive position groups. At quarterback, running back rotation, wide receiver rotation, tight end, left guard, and right tackle, battles will be won. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later in September. Still, in the end, the Crimson players who have risen to the top will make Alabama's offense far more efficient and productive than the SP+ and Punt and Rally rankings.
