Wide receiver
Even once Rees and Milroe leaned heavily into the downfield passing game last season, wide receiver was still a position of need for the Crimson Tide. Jermaine Burton emerged as the alpha with a nine-catch, 197-yard, two-touchdown, game against Texas A&M, but Burton is off to the NFL, and Isaiah Bond, the hero of the Iron Bowl, and tight end Amari Niblack fled for Texas in the transfer portal.
That leaves Kobe Prentice as the leading returner and he only made 18 catches for 314 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore last season. There is still plenty of talent at the position like Prentice, 2023 four-star recruits Jalen Hale and Jaren Hamilton, Washington transfer Germie Bernard, and 2024 five-star Ryan Williams, but there isn’t a lot of experience, which could mean another slow start to the season for Milroe.
If there are any experienced receivers available in the May transfer portal window, then DeBoer may want to take a chance, even if the upside isn’t the same as Hale, Hamilton, and even Williams.
