A Rough Week 2 of the NFL Season for Former Alabama Star QBs
Week 2 of the NFL season was a very rough week for former Alabama Star QBs. It started unfortunately with another concussion for Tua against the Bills on Thursday Night Football and ended with Jalen taking an unexpected L against the Falcons in Philly on Monday Night Football.
Bryce Young's tenure in Carolina may already be over with after a struggle in Week 2 that has led to the Panthers turning to Andy Dalton as the QB going forward.
And of course, there is Mac Jones who is biding his time backing up Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. It may be a long shot, but with how bad things have started in Jacksonville we might end up seeing Mac get another shot sooner than later.
It is funny watching other fanbases having a field day when fomer Alabama players, especially QBs, struggle in the NFL. Often these are fans of program like Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU who have taken their fair share of losses to the QBs listed above.
It is also very humorous, that whenever Jalen Hurts has success in the league, they like to mention he is a Sooner, but when he doesn't have his best day than of course they say he is a former Alabama QB. Jalen may be the only of the former QBs to see the field for the rest of this season, but I am expecting to see more of Jalen from two years ago, especially when AJ Brown gets healthy.
As far as the other three QBs they will have some interesting times ahead. There is so much unknown with Tua as he begins the healing process from yet another concussion. Only he can make the decsion of whether he wants to continue playing, but I can only imagine how hard it would be to step away from a game you have played your whole life especially when you are at the peak of your career. I can only imagine how much more special Tua's college and NFL career would be at this point without the injuries.
With Bryce it will be interesting to see if Carolina is definitely done with him or if they give him some more time in his second NFL season. We all saw Mac's career end abruptely in New England and who knows if he will get another chance as a starter in the league. One would hope both he and Bryce will get the second chances that seem to come less and less with impatient NFL front offices looking to win now. It may not be the ideal start to the 2024 NFL season for these former Bama stars, but I would almost bet money they all bounce back better than most would expect.
