Alabama Basketball sophomore Rylan Griffen enters his name into the Transfer Portal
Alabama Basketball shooting guard Rylan Griffen has entered his name into the transfer portal. The Sophomore played in 36 games this season playing 26.3 minutes per game while averaging 11.2 points per game with 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Griffen was one of the Tide's top three-point shooters while providing great defense on the perimeter. He becomes the third Alabama Basketball player to enter the transfer portal following Kris Parker and walk-on Max Scharnowski.
The move is certainly a surprise as Griffen was one of the players expected to return for the 2024-25 season. There's still a chance the Griffen ends up coming back to Alabama after exploring his options but, it seems unlikely.
At shooting guard and small forward the Tide will have a strong group if Latrell Wrightsell returns paired with Sam Walters, transfer Houston Mallette, and incoming freshman freshmen Naas Cunningham and Derrion Reid.
The Crimson Tide are also playing host to Tuscaloosa native Chris Youngblood a Senior guard from USF. Youngblood is a high-caliber scorer averaging 15.3 points per game on 45.8% shooting from the field while shooting 41.6% from three. Landing Youngblood is now a top priority for the Tide to field a talented guard group.
The Tide are expected to be heavy players in the transfer portal already reaching out to Clifford Omoruyi, Roddy Gayle Jr, Chris Youngblood, Duke Miles, Carey Booth, Marcus Hill, Jason Rivera Torres, Jordan Sears, and Frankie Fiddler.
Dominos set to fall soon
The deadline for College Players to declare for the NBA Draft is upcoming meaning that we'll know the state of the Alabama Basketball team's roster soon. The Tide are heavily pursuing several of the nation's top transfers to pair with their seventh-ranked Freshman recruiting class. As the coaching carousel seemingly comes to a stop, the Transfer pool will become more clear, and projecting the Tide's roster will become easier. Expect the Crimson Tide to land a talented guard paired with a veteran big man in this transfer cycle.
