Alabama Crimson Tide now the betting favorite against the Georgia Bulldogs
By Ronald Evans
The betting spread has turned for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama Football is now the favorite on most betting sites. Indications are recent larger dollar bets favor the Crimson Tide over the now underdog Bulldogs. The average spread is a single point.
Some Alabama Crimson Tide fans would be more comfortable with Alabama in an underdog role. However, the Alabama football team does not need betting odds as motivation for the key game.
The change in betting odds was foreshadowed throughout the week, as several credible college football experts have picked the Crimson Tide to win. The list predicting an Alabama win includes Josh Pate, Joel Klatt, Rick Neuheisel, Andy Staples, and even Danny Kanell.
Alabama Crimson Tide Injury Advantage
The shift toward Alabama as the favorite is likely the result of this week's injury updates. With Malachi Moore and Cole Adams good to go for Alabama, along with Qua Russaw, who is listed as probable for the game, Alabama has a sizable injury advantage over the Bulldogs. Also listed as probable for the Crimson Tide are running back Richard Young and linebacker Jeremiah Alexander. Alexander has not seen any action this season.
Georgia will miss two key players in offensive guard, Tate Ratledge and wide receiver, London Humphries. Also out for Georgia is running back Roderick Robinson, but the Bulldogs' two top running backs are healthy. Georgia is expected to have defensive lineman, Warren Brinson available. In doubt for the Bulldogs are defensive lineman, Jordan Hall and arguably Georgia's most important defensive player, edge defensive lineman, Mykel Williams. While Williams may be able to play, Georgia insiders doubt he will be 100%.
How important is Williams to the Bulldogs? Georgia is loaded with defensive talent, but no Georgia player is as effective in pressuring quarterbacks as Mykel Williams. Even at well less than 100%, he can be a problem for the Crimson Tide. If Georgia does not have Williams, Bulldog linebackers will have to focus more on pressuring Jalen Milroe.
