Alabama Football avoids any drama in Madison
After being in a dog fight for three and a half quarters last Saturday the Tide makes sure there was no drama in Madison this week. Giving up the first points of the game and missing a FG was about as stressful as things got for Crimson Tide fans. Ryan Williams scored a touchdown for a third straight game, Jalen Milroe joined an impressive club of QBs with another game with 2 or more passing and rushing touchdowns, and most importantly the mental errors that plagued this team a week ago was at a minimum. There is still a lot for this team to work on going into the bye week before the colossal matchup against Georgia, but I feel this team is definitely heading the right direction.
It was refreshing seeing no turnovers and there were only two penalties that I can think of against the offensive line. Jalen Milroe looked way more comfortable this week in the pocket which is a direct sign of how much Kaydn Proctor means to the flow of the offense. It is amazing how much changes in a year as he was one of the bigger liabilities in the first part of last season. I still would like to see this Crimson Tide team find more success running the ball consistenly. I loved how Jam Miller ran the ball, but would like Justice Haynes to get more carries, and not depend on Jalen's running abilities as much as we did on Saturday. We know how much tougher those yards will be to get against the likes of Georgia and other SEC defenses. Against USF I thought Milroe forced the ball to Ryan Williams a few too many times, but liked how the ball was spread out more and liked how Germie Bernard looked.
This offense showed for a third week in a row how explosive it can be and in a blink of an eye can score a touchdown. That is a great thing to have going into SEC play as for a second week in a row I thought the defense lacked a little against stopping the run and there were a few instances where the Badgers receivers got behind the Alabama cornerbacks. A better QB will be able to take advantage of the coverage at times. On a positive note for this defensive unit LT Overton had a great game and multiple forced turnover game is always a welcomed event. This defense continues to fly around and plays with a lot of energy. Overall, this was the type of game Alabama needed going into the bye week, before SEC play starts in two weeks.
