Alabama Football player Caleb Downs' incredible freshman season continues as he was awarded the Shaun Alexander Freshman Football Player of the Year award. The Maxwell Football Club awarded Downs the honor making him the second Alabama Football player to win the award with Will Anderson Jr winning it in 2020.
Downs' freshman year has been filled with honors and accolades as he's won the SEC Newcomer of the Year award, SEC Freshman of the Year Award, twice he won the SEC Freshman of the Week, and First Teal all-SEC honors.
Caleb Downs leads the Alabama Football team with 99 total tackles and 64 solo tackles. Downs has also recorded two interceptions, a forced fumble, and returned a punt for a touchdown. For Downs to start on a loaded Alabama Football team as a true freshman is a testament to his talent and how well he's taken the coaching the staff has given him.
Alabama Football: Who's next as a True Freshman?
This season the Alabama Football team has gotten massive contributions from True Freshmen in Caleb Downs and Kadyn Proctor. With a loaded signing class there are multiple candidates of players who may also have massive impacts as true freshmen. Ryan Williams is an easy candidate considered one of the best wide receivers in the country Williams may compete for starting receiver snaps if Jermaine Burton departs for the NFL. Jaylen Mbakwe and Zabien Brown are two of the top cornerback recruits in the country and will compete to replace Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold. Caleb Odom will certainly receive snaps at tight end. Overall, it's hard to step in and make an impact as big as Caleb Downs has however, the Alabama Football team should continue to get strong freshmen seasons for players every season as long as they continue recruiting top-tier talent.
