Defensive line is arguably the deepest position group on the team for Alabama Football heading into the 2024 season. Over the last four seasons, defensive line coach Freddie Roach has developed NFL Draft picks such as Christian Barmore (2021), Phidarian Mathis (2022), Byron Young (2023), and Justin Eboigbe (2024). Once again, he will have a lot of veteran experience to work with as Bama will make a schematic shift to Kane Wommack’s 4-2-5 defense.

Roach has received a lot of flak for not developing a high-level first round pick along the defensive front. While I still don’t see a first-rounder on this year’s defensive line, Bama has multiple future NFL players up front.

Nose Tackle

1. Tim Keenan III (Redshirt Junior)

2. James Smith (Sophomore)

3. Isaia Faga (Freshman)

Keenan III burst onto the scene last season, eating up reps at the nose. Though he is stout at 6’2”, Keenan III is incredibly strong and displays impressive athleticism for his size. He was extremely productive for a nose last season, notching 38 total tackles and generally being a disruptive player.

As good as Tim Keenan III is, it will be difficult to keep true sophomore James Smith off the field. The former 5-star out of Montgomery didn’t record a lot of statistical production last season, but got his share of snaps. I expect him to make more noise in 2024.

Faga comes in as another stocky interior defensive lineman whose frame reminds me of Keenan. He will likely spend a year or two adding weight and strength before becoming a contributor.
