Throughout this offseason, many have speculated whether or not backup Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson would enter the transfer portal in search of a starting opportunity elsewhere. As it seems, he will stay in Tuscaloosa for the upcoming season.

During the 2023 season, Simpson showed plenty of growth as a redshirt freshman. By the end of the year, he looked very close to being ready to play. It seems he has made another jump this spring, impressing the new coaching staff throughout the practice period.

Ty Simpson looked good in every scrimmage opportunity and made some solid throws on A-Day, raising even further speculation that he could hit the portal. The former 5-star recruit has almost certianly been tampered with to some degree.

However, the most recent report (via Tide Illustrated and Tide 100.9), indicates that he will remain on the Crimson Tide roster.

Simpson will continue to compete with Jalen Milroe and the other QBs in the room heading into the 2024 season. Barring a drastic shift, he will give Alabama one of the best in the nation at the QB2 position. Should anything happen to Milroe, the Tide will be in good hands with Simpson, who will also be primed to be the starter in 2025.

A native of Martin, Tennessee and the son of a football coach, Ty Simpson has long taken a mature and patient approach to his career. All the way back in the fall of 2021, when he was merely a high school senior and an Alabama commit, Simpson referenced Bama legend Mac Jones’ career arc and emphasized the value of waiting one’s turn.

It seems like Ty Simpson still has that long-term mindset and a wisdom beyond his years. The Crimson Tide will be the beneficiary not only in 2024, but going forward as well.
