Week Five: Alabama vs Georgia

Bryant-Denny Stadium | Tuscaloosa, Alabama | September 28, 2024

The last time Alabama saw the Georgia Bulldogs, the result was Crimson and White confetti raining down on the Tide in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Bama’s defeat of UGA in the 2023 SEC Championship game was the final chapter of the complete and utter dominance that Coach Nick Saban held over the SEC.

While Coach Saban owned the entirety of the league during his 17-year reign, he was particularly successful against Georgia. Will Coach DeBoer be able to continue that success? It won’t be easy, as the Bulldogs should once again be loaded and will likely open the season as national title favorites.

Alabama Football will kick off SEC play hosting Georgia in Bryant-Denny Stadium on September 28th.

This game will be Coach DeBoer’s first taste of SEC Football, and will likely have a significant impact on the conference standings in the SEC’s first year without divisions. Though it’s a regional rivalry, this game will also reverberate nationally, as it features two teams that have taken turns dominating the sport over the last few years.

In Kalen DeBoer’s first season at Alabama, he should not be judged solely on the outcome of a game against what may be the no. 1 team in the country. Still, Bama has more than enough talent to beat Georgia, and nothing would endear Coach DeBoer to the Alabama fan base more quickly.
