Alabama Football: Tide lands two major commitments at the All-American Bowl
The Alabama Football team landed two massive commitments at the All-American Bowl in running back Daniel Hill and cornerback Zavier Mincey. The duo will join Alabama Football's second-ranked 2024 recruiting class as they try to chase down the top class of the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Mississippi native Daniel Hill chose the Alabama Football program over his dad's alma mater Mississippi State, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Hill is the sixth-ranked running back in the 2024 recruiting class and the 128th-ranked player in the class. Daniel Hill will join Tuscaloosa native Kevin Riley in the running back room next year as Alabama Football added a duo of talented running backs. Hill was incredible in the All-American Bowl scoring two touchdowns in the showcase.
Daniel Hill will join a loaded running back room that returns Justice Haynes, Jam Miller, Richard Young, and others while awaiting a decision from Jase McClellan. The Alabama Football team lost its running back Roydell Williams to the transfer portal on Friday as the Senior decided not to return for a fifth season. Hill and fellow signee Kevin Riley will compete immediately for a role similar to the one Justice Haynes filled in 2023 and may even push for a role in the running back rotations with no experienced front-runner for the role.
The 2024 recruiting class may be one of the most talented offensive classes in Alabama Football history when it's all said and done. At Quarterback the team brought in five-star Julian Sayin who once Jalen Milroe leaves the program will have a chance to become special. The wide receiver class is loaded with Ryan Williams, Amari Jefferson, Rico Scott, and Aeryn Hampton. The position and player everyone should be more excited about is tight end Caleb Odom. Odom at 6-5 215 pounds is an incredible athlete and could be a versatile weapon in the passing game for the Alabama Football team in the years to come.
Zavier Mincey committed to Alabama at the All-American Bowl choosing the Alabama Football team over his hometown schools in Florida, Miami, and Florida State. Mincey was a standout in the game with an impressive interception in the second quarter of the game. Mincey is the sixth-ranked cornerback in the 2024 recruiting class and the 71st-ranked player overall.
Mincey joins a recruiting class loaded with elite defensive back talent as he joins Alabama Football signees Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Payton Woodyard, Rydarrius Morgan, Dre Kirkpatrick Jr, and Aeryn Hampton if he decides to play safety at Alabama rather than cornerback. The team also added former top cornerback recruit Domani Jackson from USC via the transfer portal. The defensive backs brought in will all fight for immediate playing time as the Alabama Football team lost their starting two cornerbacks in Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold to the NFL Draft. The team also lost talented cornerback, Earl Little Jr, to the transfer portal despite a significant chance of playing time in 2024.
The lack of experience at cornerback is concerning however, the Alabama Football team has brought in enough talent with players like Mincey that it shouldn't be much of an issue. The Alabama Football team returns talent in the secondary with Malachi Moore, Caleb Downs, and Devonta Smith all returning while the team awaits a decision from Trey Amos.
Alabama Football: Just how many true freshmen do we see in 2024?
It's tough to start at a program as talented as the Alabama Football program as a true freshman, we saw just two players do it this season, Caleb Downs and Kadyn Proctor. However, 2024 may be the year of the freshman with the holes the team will have entering camp. The team has to replace its two starting cornerbacks and a safety which will give players like Mincey, Mbakwe, and Brown a chance to earn playing time in year one. Talented interior offensive lineman Casey Poe will have a chance to compete for a starting job at center with the departures of Seth McLaughlin and Terrance Ferguson. With Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell declaring for the NFL Draft we may see Sterling Dixon or Jayshawn Ross rotate in at edge rusher. The departures of Malik Benson and Jermaine Burton open the door for receivers like Ryan Williams, Rico Scott, Amari Jefferson, and Aeryn Hampton.
