An old bar of success; a 10-win season still matters and remains a challenge for many SEC football teams

For the 124 FBS teams that will not compete in the Playoffs, the old standby success measurement of 10 wins remains important.

  • Oklahoma Sooners - In the 2006-2023 seasons, the Sooners produced 14, 10-win seasons. Oklahoma fans can argue that stat is more impressive than Georgia's.
  • LSU Bengal Tigers - Going back to Nick Saban's 2003 National Championship team, LSU has had 12, 10-win seasons. After Saban, the LSU program could be described as a 'feast or famine' program, but the Bengal Tigers have often been one of the SEC's top programs.
  • Ole Miss Rebels - A big dropoff from the SEC's top four leads to Ole Miss. The Rebels have had only three, 10-win seasons since 2003, but two, 11-2, in 2023, and 10-2 in 2021 have come in the last three seasons.
  • Texas Longhorns - The Longhorns had a great run under Mack Brown in 2001-2009, winning at least 10 games every season. Then the program slumped and since 2009, Texas has just two 10-win seasons.
  • Missouri Tigers - From 2007 - 2013, the Tigers achieved six 10-win seasons. Unfortunately, during the seasons Missouri came up short, it was often well short of 10 wins. Eight of the seasons had less than eight wins.
  • Kentucky Wildcats - The Cats have just four 10-win seasons in their football history. One was in 1950 when Kentucky was coached by Paul 'Bear' Bryant. One more was accomplished in the 1977 season, under Fran Curci. Mark Stoops having two, 10-win seasons in Kentucky's six most recent seasons is a major coaching accomplishment.
