At Wisconsin Alabama Football will pad its impressive success over Big Ten teams
By Ronald Evans
By mid-afternoon on Saturday, the Alabama Football program record against Big Ten teams will increase to almost a 70% success rate. The Crimson Tide's game against Wisconsin is the 59th Alabama game against a Big Ten and it will be win No. 41.
The numbers are calculated from games against the current Big Ten teams. The Crimson Tide has played 13 of the B1G's 18 teams. The five Alabama Football is yet to play are Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, Northwestern, and Oregon.
Among the Tide's 13 Big Ten opponents, only two have a winning record over the Crimson Tide. UCLA, as a Pac-12 team posted a 1-2 record against the Crimson Tide. Back in 2004, in a depressing Music City Bowl game for Alabama fans, Minnesota won its only game against Alabama, 20-16. Just how depressing was it? The Crimson Tide was 0-for-11 on 3rd down and rushed 21 times for a total of 21 yards. The bowl game loss was Alabama's fourth in its last five games of the 2004 season.
By far the most frequent Big Ten for Alabama has been Penn State. The Crimson Tide holds a nice edge over the Nittany Lions, with a 10-5 record. The next most frequent Alabama opponent is new Big Ten member USC. The Trojans and the Tide have met eight times, with Alabama winning six of the contests. Alabama football fans remember the last one well. Freshman Jalen Hurts started the 2016 game. The Trojans were the big-talk kings before the game but had nothing to talk about on the field, with the Tide winning 52-6.
Three current Big Ten teams have never won against the Crimson Tide. Rutgers and Michigan State are 0-2, and Washington is 0-5.
