  • An injury-diminished LSU team travels to Columbia to face South Carolina. The Bengal Tigers are favored by 6.5 points. So far, the LSU defense has shown little improvement over last season. Losing running back, John Emery from another serious injury was a major blow to the LSU offense. Garrett Nussmeier has played well as the new quarterback starter, but he is no Jayden Daniels. South Carolina's offense has been inconsistent, though redshirt freshman, QB, LaNorris Sellars shows potential. If Sellars can improve his ball security, the South Carolina offense can prosper from his passing skill. Sellers had a hip problem against Kentucky. He is expected to start against LSU, but may not be 100%. The Gamecocks are good at getting quarterback pressure, which might slow LSU's main offensive weapon. If Sellars is not too banged up; and if he has no more than one turnover, my pick is a South Carolina upset in a close game.
  • Not an SEC game, but a bonus upset pick is Memphis putting a fork in FSU. The Seminoles are at home and are favored by 6.5 points. FSU should be the better team. But they should have been the better team against Georgia Tech and Boston College. ESPN Analytics gives FSU a 73% probability of winning. At least one credible model rates Memphis higher than Georgia Tech and Boston College. In what will likely be the boldest pick I'll make all season, I predict FSU to meltdown to 0-3, after 6.5-point underdog Memphis wins.
  • This is not an upset pick and don't consider it as a betting tip. The Tennessee Vols are favored by 49.5 points against Kent State. The Golden Flashes are 0-2, with losses to Pitt and the Saint Francis Red Flash. Kent State somehow scored 24 points while losing to Pitt, but managed just 17 points in Week 2 against Saint Francis. The Vols can be expected to beat the game's Over (62.5 points) with just their points. Kent State might score a touchdown; with a final result somewhere around 70-7.

Next. Alabama Football, Invincibility, and SEC Honeymoonds. Alabama Football looks less than invincible, and honeymoons in Auburn and Lexington might be over.. dark
