The Alabama Crimson Tide, Kaleb Deboer era has just begun. DeBoer and the rest of the Alabama football staff are wasting no time on the recruiting trail. On Wednesday, the Alabama Crimson Tide landed the No. 2 overall athlete in the 2025 class, Darrell "Duke" Johnson out of Dodge County High School in Georgia.
Coming in at 6'1, 200 pounds, Johnson could play a variety of positions including linebacker, safety, as well as other positions. Indications are the Alabama football staff sees Johnson at one of the two defensive positions. Check out his junior highlights from Hudl.com
What is unique about Johnson, is he even played quarterback in high school, which really speaks to his ability to play just about any position of importance that he prefers. Thankfully, Alabama is in a good position when it comes to the quarterback position, and will likely use "Duke" on the defensive side of the ball.
Alabama Football had plenty of competition
In terms of recruitment, the 4-star athlete held offers from just about everybody in the country. His recruitment came down to a handful of schools, including Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, and surprisingly, even UCF. After visiting Alabama, things became very clear for Johnson. Tuscaloosa was going to be home for the potential Alabama Crimson Tide star.
After landing the do-it-all athlete on Wednesday, Alabama is now ranked Top 10 for recruiting in the class of 2025 with 139.23 points, just ahead of Georgia to crack the No. 10 spot. The Alabama Crimson Tide also has another top target looking to make his announcement soon. Luke Metz will announce on Sunday and the Alabama football staff likes its position with him also. Gaining a Metz commit would put the Tide in the No. 8 spot, per the 247 class calculator.
Welcome home Duke!
