Considering Depth Charts on the cusp of Alabama Football Fall Camp
By Ronald Evans
Instead of focusing on what we think we know about depth charts heading into Kalen DeBoer's first Alabama Football Fall Camp - let's consider how much will be learned over the next month. DeBoer might shock everyone and not use any vague terms like 'organizational groupings' to avoid early depth chart scrutiny. He could honestly deflect some early depth chart obsession by accurately stating that over 30, Alabama Crimson Tide defenders have a chance to win a starting role.
DeBoer has already defined Jalen Milroe as the starter at quarterback. He could easily add that Tyler Booker, Jaeden Roberts, Deontae Lawson, Jihaad Campbell, and Malachi Moore have also locked down starting roles.
Beyond those clear team leaders a new season, with an almost completely new staff, should signal almost every starting position must be earned anew. A further complication for depth chart predictions is the defensive line, edge rushers, wide receiver, running backs, and tight ends will likely have a deep rotation. How deep for each group is not known.
The starting point for watching Fall Camp developments is the Alabama Crimson Tide roster is loaded with talent. Yes, there is limited or no game experience among many of Alabama's potential key players. But on talent alone, Alabama Football arguably has college football's best roster.
So let's dive in, concentrating of what needs to be learned during Fall Camp.
