For Alabama Football and Georgia no 'doubt' factor will determine the winner
By Ronald Evans
Going into Alabama Football vs. Georgia Game Week Part 2, there has been chatter about the motivational factor of teams being doubted. Supposedly Georgia got a wake-up call against Kentucky. It is true that during a season, teams have a game they are not mentally 'up' for. It does not often happen to true, championship-quality teams, which the Bulldogs certainly are.
Any suggestion that to beat Alabama, Georgia needed a 'wake-up' call against Kentucky is laughable. Nothing needed or needs to happen to make the Sept. 28 game a higher priority for either team.
Motivation from being doubted by outsiders applies to both teams. But such doubts are not in equal proportion. Alabama Football has been doubted longer and more deeply than a one-week blip of doubt about the Georgia Bulldogs.
Alabama will measure itself against the Bulldogs and expect to come out on top. The game will be the first time a Kalen DeBoer Alabama team can gain a statement win. Both teams can absorb a loss and go forward with the season's goals in place.
For Georgia, the outcome might be more problematic. As good as Georgia is, followers of the Bulldogs are questioning Offensive Coordinator, Mike Bobo. Their concerns summarize that Bobo is holding Carson Beck back by not fully utilizing Beck's skills. Writing for Dawn of the Dawg, Josh Yourish stated Bobo needs to trust Beck. "Bobo’s conservative play-calling nearly cost Georgia against Kentucky, but teams like Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee won’t let the Bulldogs off the hook. College football has changed, even Georgia can’t rely purely on a talent advantage across the board, especially not in SEC play." Yourish also wrote that Bobo's offensive structure this season "isn’t giving his quarterback the opportunity to make big plays."
Alabama football fans not doubting Crimson Tide Coordinators
Alabama football fans have some history of doubting Crimson Tide coordinators. That fixation may return at any time. But so far, Alabama fans are sold on the DeBoer-Sheridan offensive duo and optimistic about the Wommack defensive system. Ironically, Georgia with its two national championships in the last three seasons is the team with an OC being doubted.
Alabama has the advantage of knowing more about Georgia than the Bulldogs know about the Crimson Tide. It will make Week 5's most intriguing chess game interesting. The game's outcome will be determined by execution, along with perhaps some luck), but not by who or what was doubted beforehand.
