Several former Alabama football players have voiced their displeasure over the Crimson Tide's performance in the loss to Vanderbilt this past weekend. None have been more vocal, or more angry, than former RB Damien Harris.,

Harris retired from professional football this past offseason, and was initially slated to take over the sideline reporting for the Crimson Tide Sports Network, but ultimately got an offer from CBS to be a college football analyst that he couldn't pass up.

Harris spent four years at Alabama from 2015-2018 and was part of two national championship winning teams in 2015 and 2017. Harris loves the University of Alabama, and he couldn't hold back his frustration in the aftermath of the Vanderbilt loss.

On his podcast Until Saturday, Harris ripped into Malachi Moore for his antics, and then took aim at head coach Kalen DeBoer for promoting a culture that allowed it.

Harris said what a lot of was were thinking in that Moore's behavior was obviously unbecoming of a two-time team captain and a player whose handprints are already in the ground at Denny Chimes. Harris is uniquely equipped to comment on that because his handprints are also in the ground at Denny Chimes.

But I can't help but ask - who does Harris think he's helping with this rant? Do former players think they are helping by ripping into the team on social media platforms? Remember, there were plenty of former players questioning things the last couple of seasons Nick Saban was the coach, wondering what had changed for Alabama.

This is part of what makes this job so unique. It's not just the fans that bring pressure on DeBoer, it's the former players who expect the team to live up to a standard with their play and with their actions on the field.

Malachi Moore shouldn't get off easy. It was disappointing to see how he acted at the end of the game. The cheap shot on Diego Pavia, throwing his mouthpiece, kicking the football, and then showing up his defensive coordinator by refusing to leave the field when Kane Wommack tried to sub him out. Those actions would be unacceptable by any player, especially a team captain.

But does Harris and other fans want him drawn and quartered in the middle of the Quad? Nick Saban was famous for in-house discipline that was never publicized. Why would the expectation for DeBoer be any different than that?

Nobody feels worse than Moore about what he did. And he's got to answer to his teammates and coaches about it. He doesn't have to answer to me, you, or any former player with a media outlet.

There's plenty of frustration to go around after a lackluster performance in Nashville. But continuing to dwell on it, and drawing big picture conclusions off of a single game, is a disservice to this team and this coaching staff.

There's a lot of season left, and all of Alabama's preseason goals remain in front of them.
