Kalen DeBoer's most important post-scrimmage comment
By Ronald Evans
Alabama Football is finished with Fall Camp scrimmages. The quick buzz after Saturday's session is the Alabama Crimson Tide defense stepped up to the level of the offense. In his post-scrimmage review, Kalen DeBoer complimented both sides of the ball, defining Saturday's competition as a "good give and take.". He specifically mentioned the Tide's defensive line doing a good job against the run.
Running back Jam Miller set out the scrimmage, but DeBoer said Miller could have taken part. The upside was Richard Young was able to get added work.
The most important result from Saturday is the Alabama Crimson Tide has no serious injury problems after completing, the most physical work of Fall Camp. Other national title contenders and other SEC teams have not been so lucky. DeBoer said key players Jam Miller and Jaeden Roberts would be a full go for game one.
Other Post Scrimmage Kalen DeBoer comments
- DeBoer said Saturday was the most physical scrimmage he has had in Tuscaloosa, including those held last spring.
- Asked about the cornerbacks, DeBoer said, "On top of receivers. In good positions. They could be better, but nothing as far as busted assignments."
- The scrimmage did not settle the starter competition at right tackle. DeBoer said unless there is a significant change in the nest several days, Wilkin Formby and Elijah Pritchett will continue to compete in the early games.
- DeBoer discussed Germie Bernard, Jaylen Mbakwem Ryan Williams, and Kendrick Law as possible punt returners.
- DeBoer gave high praise to punter James Burnip. "He has been nothing but phenomenal all camp." The coach also used "amazing" to describe Burnip.
- Much like right tackle, it appears competition at one of the cornerback spots is far from over. DeBoer had good things to say about Zabien Brown, DeShawn Jones and Mbakwe.
