Kalen DeBoer provides injury updates on Kendrick Law and DeVonta Smith
We won't get Alabama Football's first availability report of Vanderbilt week until later Wednesday evening, but head coach Kalen DeBoer provided injury updates on two Tide players who left the game against Georgia.
The update was very positive on DeVonta Smith, who was evidently just battling cramps on Saturday night. He has been a full participant in practice so far this week, and it's probably unlikely his name will even be listed on the availability report when it comes out.
Smith was having a strong game before he left the field with cramps. Ultimately, true freshman Red Morgan replaced him and made some freshman mistakes. Morgan suffered an injury too, which led to the Crimson Tide having to play third string Rover King Mack in crunch time.
On WR Kendrick Law, DeBoer said:
"He's still day-to-day right now, trying to work through it. He's trying to do everything he can to get out there. I wouldn't rule him out, and I wouldn't say he's a for sure go right now."
There's been no official word on what the injury was for Law other than it being called a lower body injury. He got dinged up in the second quarter against the Bulldogs and didn't return. It's no coincidence that the offense got stagnant and managed just a field goal and a touchdown the rest of the way once Law went out.
The junior hasn't put up eye popping statistics, but he is a vital part of what Alabama wants to do offensively with his downfield blocking prowess. Nobody was happier that Law was out of the game than Georgia star safety Malachi Starks.
We'll keep a close eye on Law's status and I would expect him to be officially listed as "questionable" for this weekend's matchup with the Commodores when we get a look at the availability report this evening.
