Lots of gain and little pain in SEC Football Week Two Score Predictions
By Ronald Evans
Week 1 of college football was a mixed bag for SEC football teams. All 16 SEC teams were in action, and 13 SEC teams came away with wins. For the three fanbases whose team lost CFB Week 1 was the opposite of fun.
The Week 1 SEC showcase result was the beatdown Georgia gave Clemson with the Dawgs winning 34-3. The next best result for an SEC team came from the Vanderbilt Commodores who upset Virginia Tech, 34-27 in overtime.
There were three more SEC vs. Power Four games and the SEC teams lost each one. LSU came up short late, losing to USC 27-20, prompting a post-game hand-pounding response by a frustrated Brian Kelly. Kelly is now 0-3 in season openers as the LSU coach. Texas A&M also came up short, losing 23-13 to Notre Dame in College Station.
The SEC's most embarrassing performance came from the Florida Gators. In 'The Swamp' the Miami Hurricanes throttled the Gators, 41-17. Seasons are not defined by week ones, but Florida's 2024 future looks grim.
The SEC's 13-3 Week 1 record was marred by the conference going 2-3 in games against Power Four opponents. However SEC teams fare in six Week 2 games against Power Four opponents; the conference can get validation from one SEC road game with major Playoff implications.
