New info and rumors fueling post-scrimmage enthusiasm of Alabama football fans
By Ronald Evans
Alabama football fans are feeling good as more information comes out about Saturday's scrimmage. The mostly unofficial information is a mixture of fact and rumor that goes deeper into what happened in the Crimson Tide's first scrimmage of Fall Camp.
Earlier in the week, Jalen Milroe commented on the progress made by the Alabama Football offense. Kalen DeBoer and Nick Sheridan have lots of options with the Crimson Tide having so much talent at the skill positions. Unlike previous seasons. Jalen Milroe will go into game one with an offense, as he said, "catered to me."
After Saturday's scrimmage, Kalen DeBoer was careful to not disclose much. What Alabama football fans have learned or think they have learned provides more insight.
One 'what was learned' item that stands out was the performance of Ryan Williams. Williams and Jalen Milroe connected on a long touchdown pass, with the future Crimson Tide superstar beating transfer cornerback DaShawn Jones on the play.
At least two more 'what was learned' items can be seen in the scrimmage video below.
The catch made with a one-hand pull down was freshman, wide receiver, Caleb Odom (No. 18). Freshman cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe was outclassed on the play. That's not a slam against Mbakwe; Odom will likely do the same to top SEC defensive backs during the season.
Also standing out was the perfect throw from Ty Simpson to transfer tight end, Josh Cuevas for another scrimmage touchdown. The beaten defender on the play was backup linebacker Jeremiah Alexander.
Less verified information circulating on Saturday night points to other strong scrimmage performances. Standing out on the defensive line was transfer LT Overton. Overton may not project as a starter, but he is looking like a key rotational player for the unit. Alabama pass catchers, Cole Adams and CJ Dippre were noticed for solid scrimmage performances. The right tackle competition came no closer to resolution on Saturday, with Wilkin Formby and Ejihah Prichett both working with the first unit.
Alabama football fans have good reason to be excited. Much work is left to be done With it should come more progress.
