There’s understandably a significant crossover between New Orleans Saints fans and LSU Tigers fans in Louisiana, but they’re happy to have Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstry on their side. Those LSU fans saw enough of McKinstry over his three years as a starter in the SEC to know the type of player that their NFL team just got with the 41st overall pick.

Understandably, with the best nickname of any player in the 2024 NFL Draft, Saints fans were quick to make all the same jokes and puns that Alabama fans did when they first learned about their former five-star cornerback.

The Kool-Aid man made an appearance at McKinstry’s draft party and plenty of appearances on X from Bama and Nola fans alike.

Even Robert Griffin III got in on the act Friday night after McKinstry went to New Orleans.

On the field, McKinstry could be a perfect fit with the Saints who have an uncertain future in their secondary. Marshon Lattimore may not be there for much longer and that would leave Paulson Adebo as their top cornerback.

While he wasn’t the top cornerback selected from last season’s Alabama defense, he was given that level of respect by opposing teams. Despite playing 848 snaps, the second most on the defense behind Caleb Downs, he was targeted just 39 times and only allowed 19 receptions for 205 yards.
