Former Alabama Football coach Nick Saban is never shy about giving his opinions, and with his new media gig on ESPN's College Gameday show, the legendary coach has the platform to be able to do so without worrying about any recruiting ill-affects.

On Saturday, Saban took aim at Mike Norvell and Florida State.

"They've always taken the microwave fix," said Saban. "You take a lot of guys from the portal, sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. Those guys were all in the portal for a reason."

Notably, five players on Alabama's 2023 roster transferred to Florida State over the offseason following Nick Saban announcing his retirement. RB Roydell Williams, WR Malik Benson, OL TJ Ferguson, LB Shawn Murphy, and DB Earl Little Jr. departed Tuscaloosa for Tallahassee, and have quickly found out that the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

Or as Nick Saban has said, it's always greener closest to the septic tank.

Florida State is off to an 0-3 start to the season and have a tough home game on Saturday against Cal that could cause them to start a season 0-4 for the second time under Mike Norvell.

To Saban's point, it's difficult to see a big role for any of the Florida State transfers in Tuscaloosa this season. Williams was a big part of the offense last year, but it widely thought that both Jam Miller and Justice Haynes had surpassed him on the depth chart. Benson saw the field last year, but didn't make much of an impact.

Ferguson and Murphy were career backups for the Crimson Tide, and Earl Little has settled into a backup job with the Seminoles like he likely would have had at Alabama.

Alabama was the butt of a lot of jokes about players transferring following Saban's retirement, but aside from a couple of cases, the guys who left weren't starting caliber players.

Florida State has found that out the hard way, a point Saban was happy to point out this morning.
