Three things Alabama Football fans want to see against Georgia
As Alabama prepares to host Georgia in the most highly-anticipated game of the 2024 regular season, here are three things Crimson Tide fans want to see from their team.
1. Swarm defense wreaks havoc
Alabama’s defense under Kane Wommack has done a good job of pursuing the football and forcing turnovers this season. In what figures to be an evenly-matched game against Georgia, a turnover or two could make all the difference in the world.
Bama forced a critical turnover in last season’s SEC Championship game that helped it beat the Bulldogs, and UGA quarterback Carson Beck was very fortunate not to have a couple more giveaways.
Look for Wommack’s defense to pressure Beck early and force some mistakes.
2. Offensive line builds on solid performance last week
With its full starting lineup available for the first time all season, the Alabama offensive line enjoyed its best game yet against Wisconsin. The group needs to maintain that level of play against much tougher competition in Georgia.
This unit’s play is probably most correlative with Crimson Tide success. If it plays well, opens holes in the run game, protects Jalen Milroe, and avoids costly errors, it’s tough to envision Alabama losing this game. The Tide is more dynamic than Georgia across the board in terms of offensive skill positions, and those weapons only need the opportunity to shine.
3. More Ryan Williams!
The true freshman wide receiver has scored in every game so far this season, and he will look to find the end zone again against Georgia. Known as Hollywood, Ryan Williams is a big-stage type of player, and one would be hard-pressed to find a bigger stage for a regular season game.
The attention Williams has gotten thus far, in combination with Kirby Smart’s defensive prowess, has led many to believe he may not have a huge impact. Smart is regarded as one of the greatest defensive minds in the sport, and there’s no way he would let an undersized freshman beat him, right? I wouldn’t be so sure.
While it’s true that Williams will draw a lot of attention from the Georgia secondary and should have a big impact as a decoy, I wouldn’t count out the possibility that he makes some huge plays. As shown by his two-catch, two-touchdown performance in his debut, Ryan Williams doesn’t need to be an enormous part of the game plan. He can change the complexion of the game in one or two plays, and one slip-up by the Georgia defense could result in six points for the freshman phenom.
