Top 5 performances for Alabama Football in the NFL Week 4
It was another exciting week of NFL action with plenty of former Alabama Football stars standing out and leading their teams.
For the 88th week in a row, a former Alabama player reached the endzone, something that Alabama Pro Updates has been tracking on Twitter/X for over five years now.
Obvioulsy the Crimson Tide put a ton of talent in the NFL during Nick Saban's tenure as head coach, and that talent continues to flourish.
While it's never easy to narrow the list down, we'll take a look at the Top 5 performances from Alabama football players in the NFL in Week 4:
The Top 5
5. Xavier McKinney
Xavier McKinney has made this list every game this season because in every game this season Xaxier McKinney has intercepted a pass. With his fourth pick in four games, McKinney became the first Green Bay Packer in team history to record an interception in his first four games with the team.
McKinney was one of two former Alabama players that signed with the Packers this offseason, joining RB Josh Jacobs.
Opposing QB's have had a 15.0 passer rating when targeting McKinney this season. He's off to the best start of his career. He leads the NFL in interceptions, with two more than anyone else in the league through four weeks.
4. Patrick Surtain II
It's rare that Patrick Surtain II posts a gaudy stat line because most quarterbacks at this stage of his career just refuse to target him. In his fourth season, he has become one of the best corners in the NFL.
In Week 4, Surtain drew the assignment of Jets No. 1 WR Garrett Wilson, and he made his life miserable. Wilson wasn't even targeted on the first 18 routes he ran, and for the game in the 25 routes that Surtain lined up with Wilson on Sunday, Wilson had only 2 catches for 25 yards.
The Broncos have been one of the league's worst offensive teams, but find theselves 2-2 through four games thanks to elite defensive play. Having one of the league's top cornerbacks in Surtain is a big reason why.
3. Jahmyr Gibbs
For Alabama fans, there's not a more fun team to watch in the NFL these days than the Detroit Lions. The Lions are littered with former Tide players. Jahmyr Gibbs, Jameson Williams, Terrion Arnold, and Brian Branch all play vital roles for Detroit, though Branch missed the Monday night matchup after suffering a concussion against Arizona a week ago.
Jameson Williams had an argument for this spot, too, after he ended a relatively quiet evening with a 70-yard touchdown on a catch-and-run.
But it was Gibbs getting into the endzone twice and gaining 78 rushing yards on 14 carries who gets the nod.
Gibbs showed he's more than a change of pace back, powering through runs in the middle of the Seattle defense, and scoring touchdowns from one and three yards out.
Gibbs has typically not gotten goal-line work, with the Lions preferring to go with the bigger David Montgomery for short yardage situations.
2. Brian Robinson Jr.
Brace yourself, the Washington Commanders are.....fun? Led by rookie QB Jayden Daniels, Washington suddenly looks like a legitimate threat to win the NFC East with both the Cowboys and the Eagles showing serious flaws. The Commanders are 3-1, and while Daniels is understandably getting a lot of love, Brian Robinson Jr. is having a strong year.
With Austin Ekeler out with an injury, Robinson had to shoulder the load on Sunday. Robinson had his second 100+ yard rushing game of the season, gaining 101 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown in Washington's 42-14 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
76 of Robinson's 101 yards came after contact, which led all running backs in Week 4.
Robinson is off to the best start of his young career. He's 10th in the NFL in rushing and currently on pace for over 1300 yards and 13 touchdowns.
1. Derrick Henry
Could it be anyone else? The king continues to prove that he is still the king, and perhaps the very last of his kind.
Derrick Henry started off Sunday Night Football against the Bills with an 87-yard touchdown run on the Ravens' first play from scrimmage. He carried the ball 24 times for 199 yards and the touchdown, and added a receiving touchdown in the game as well.
The Henry-led Ravens thumped the Bills in a 35-10 victory, and after starting 0-2, Baltimore is now .500 and looking dangerous with the backfield duo of Henry and Lamar Jackson.
Henry leads the NFL in rushing on a career-best 6.0 yards-per-carry. He's currently on pace for his second 2000+ yard rushing season of his career, and he's just 18 yards shy of eclipsing 10,000 career rushing yards.
We are witnessing an all-time great.
