After Week 2 of college football the SEC Power Rankings have changed for many SEC football teams. A reminder is these rankings are a snapshot of the relative overall strength and weakness of SEC teams now. They are not a prediction of how any SEC football team will finish the 2024 regular season.
There were some key games involving SEC football teams in week 2, including the first SEC conference game of 2024. South Carolina's win over Kentucky pushed the Gamecocks to an early top of the SEC standings.
After the season's Week 2, the SEC is already down to just nine undefeated teams. In Week 3 that number could drop with six SEC football teams in three games against each other.
2024 SEC Football Power Ranking - Sept. 9
- No. 16 - Kentucky Wildcats (1-1) - Last week No. 11 - The Wildcats may not be the SEC's worst team, but losing 31-6 at home against South Carolina, puts Kentucky in the SEC cellar, at least for now. The Lexington Courier-Journal ranked the loss as the worst of Kentucky's Mark Stoops' tenure. According to a Kentucky beat writer, discussing post-game comments, Stoops did not specifically say his team quit, but he talked about "their lack of fight." Next up for Kentucky is Georgia in Lexington.
