Why the Alabama Football team will be better in 2024
Coaching Staff upgrades
Not only did Nick Saban deal with losing players year after year, but he'd also lose multiple valuable assistants every offseason. As the years went on, finding valuable assistants became harder and the team's production would show it. The team went from Lane Kiffin to Steve Sarkisian as offensive coordinator then the offense slowed significantly as the team went to Bill O'Brien and Tommy Rees.
The biggest takeaway two days into Spring Practice has nothing to do with the players, but rather with the energy that the coaching staff has brought to practice. The staff brings back just two Saban assistants in Freddie Roach and Robert Gillespie.
On the offensive side of the football, the team originally had one of the best coordinators in the sport in Ryan Grubb. Even after losing him, the staff may be better overall. The group brings in JaMarcus Shephard, one of if not the highest-regarded position coaches in all of college football. Nick Sheridan calling Kalen DeBoer's offense will provide a significant upgrade over Tommy Rees.
Despite losing defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson, the defensive staff as a whole is better overall as well. Kane Wommack is likely coaching his only season at Alabama this year as he'll likely land a major head coaching gig after this season. Colin Hitschler is a highly-regarded safeties coach and will likely be the defensive coordinator post-Kane Wommack.
The Alabama Football team has an incredible recruiting class coming in and the group's development will be vital to Kalen DeBoer's success at Alabama. DeBoer has brought in one of the top support staffs in the country and the group will provide a significant upgrade to the coaching staff.
