With Alabama returning both starting safeties from a year ago in Bray Hubbard and Keon Sabb, along with a starting CB in Zabien Brown, and another CB who made multiple starts in Dijon Lee, rising junior Red Morgan sometimes gets forgotten about when discussing the Crimson Tide's elite secondary.
That'll probably last all the way up until the first game of the season when he's fully unleashed.
Morgan grew up significantly in 2025 as a sophomore, seeing action in all 15 Alabama games and making five starts, including the last four contests against Auburn, Georgia (SECCG), Oklahoma (CFP), and Indiana (Rose Bowl).
Morgan made a name for himself in the Alabama secondary by the physical nature of his play. He was picked on a bit as a true freshman thrust into a major role, but he never stopped working even after losing his starting job. He earned effusive praise last season from Tide DC Kane Wommack:
"That’s a young man that we asked a whole hell of a lot of a year ago, to come in here and start as a true freshman, and it was because we didn’t have another answer," Wommack said. "So we put a whole lot on his plate, and some things he handled really well, and some things he had to push through the adversity, but now he’s come out on the other side as a very good football player. Proud of his fight and excited to see what he’ll do on the back end of the season.”
Now, heading into his third season with the program, Morgan looks poised for a big season while manning Alabama's Husky position.
CBS lists Red Morgan as a player poised for a breakout season in 2026
In an article published by CBS on Thursday featuring post-spring intel from experts Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz, Morgan was listed as one of the lesser-known conference players poised for a breakout season in 2026.
Hummer and Zenitz cite sources at Alabama who state that Morgan was a "dominant player" this spring for the Crimson Tide.
"He's always had the ability, but he's now been more consistent and is now doing it all the time," another source added, per CBS. "He's a baller."
Alabama fans saw the growth from Morgan a season ago. His aggressiveness as a tackler, particularly as a one-man wrecking crew on bubble screens, was eye-opening. He's now evidently found the consistency piece that is always the final part of the puzzle for a young player.
Morgan is poised for a big junior season and should be highlighted more when Alabama's elite secondary is discussed.
