There are certain games that follow a player.

For Ryan Coleman-Williams, Georgia is one of them.

The last time the Bulldogs came to Bryant-Denny Stadium, Coleman-Williams was a 17-year-old true freshman still introducing himself to Alabama and the rest of the college football world.

We all remember what happened next.

He left that night with six catches for 177 yards and the game-winning touchdown — a viral moment that helped the Tide deliver the gut punch that knocked off UGA while announcing his arrival as one of the country's most electric receivers.

Now, two seasons later, Georgia is coming back to Tuscaloosa.

But Coleman-Williams isn't the same player we saw that night.

He's older. He's more mature. He's more polished. He's more confident. He's more refined.

And that maturation process has shown itself through Alabama's first five games, as the junior captain has begun eliminating the biggest kryptonite in his game: drops.

Coleman-Williams has caught 20 of his 32 targets for 376 yards with just one true drop while scoring four touchdowns — three of them coming in the Tide's last three games. He's also averaging 18.5 yards per grab and has earned a 65% catch watch thus far while continuing to build what is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous combos in the nation with star sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell.

Now, the stage is set, the stakes are similar, and all of that growth will be put to the test against the team that helped put him on the map in the first place.

Both No. 6 Alabama and No. 2 Georgia enter this matchup undefeated, ranked in the top 10, and in control of their own destiny as they chase the SEC crown in a game that looks like a true toss-up according to oddsmakers.

This time for Coleman-Williams, the opportunity extends far beyond another game on the Crimson Tide's schedule.

Ryan Coleman-Williams has a chance to solidify his 1st round draft status vs. Georgia

It'll be one of the biggest games of his Alabama career — and perhaps his best opportunity yet to show NFL scouts and team general managers across the league that the receiver who flashed elite talent as a freshman has now developed into a legitimate first-round candidate ahead of next April's 2027 NFL Draft.

That's what makes this matchup even more intriguing.

Coleman-Williams has already gotten the better of the kind of defensive backs on the Tide's schedule who'll eventually join him on Sundays at the next level.

He caught passes against Mississippi State's Kelley Jones, a 6-foot-4, 2027 NFL Draft-eligible corner who currently ranks among the top cornerbacks in the class.

He also had success the previous week against South Carolina's Vacari Swain, another 2027 draft-eligible corner with legit Sunday potential.

Now the challenge gets even tougher with Georgia's defense being loaded with NFL-caliber talent, and at the center of it is junior corner Ellis Robinson IV.

Robinson IV comes into this matchup having allowed very little production in coverage while recording three pass breakups through five games, including an interception against Vanderbilt last Saturday.

Best on best. This is the kind of matchup NFL scouts watch closely.

And if Coleman-Williams can get loose against a Georgia secondary that ranks fifth in fewest passing yards allowed at 187.5 per game, it would give Alabama's offense the firepower it needs in this matchup in particular while providing another piece of evidence that shows he's evolved into a more complete receiver.

Then the conversation won't be about whether Coleman-Williams has first-round potential.

It'll be about how high he can go.
