While many college athletes typically scatter back to their hometowns for summer break to train on their own once spring semester wraps up, Alabama football's alpha wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams is moving differently this offseason—choosing to stay rooted in the quiet of Tuscaloosa ahead of his junior season as his place to build, not escape. And that decision is something that is already turning heads inside the program.

For Kalen DeBoer, it's not just where Coleman-Williams is spending his summer—it's the consistency of his presence and what it signals about his approach entering a critical year. That continued optimism comes after what was viewed as the wideout's most productive and encouraging spring since arriving at Alabama, with the staff noting how that momentum has carried directly into the offseason.

The third-year Alabama head coach made that clear on Wednesday during an appearance on former Crimson Tide quarterback Greg McElroy's Always College Football podcast.

Kalen DeBoer says Ryan Coleman-Williams has stayed in Tuscaloosa to lock in over the summer ahead of crucial junior season

“He’s here this whole month of May," DeBoer said. "He might have little things on the weekends that he goes and does, but he’s here. Our guys are away from school for the most part. There’s a couple of weeks where they do get that one time of year to get away. Guess who’s here? And that’s Ryan Coleman-Williams. And I’m excited about what that future looks like. I just think if you just keep working, the good things come to you sooner or later. You want it sooner than later, but that’s going to be the case, I think, for Ryan.”

Coleman-Williams has also embraced a growing leadership role this calendar year—an important step forward as he returns as the most experienced focal point of the Crimson Tide offense.

“And then what he’s done as a leader, being really the guy that’s probably taken as many snaps as anyone on the offensive side in particular, DeBoer said. He’s in the weight room, and he can lead the charge.”

As Alabama continues to reshape its identity and outside perception, Coleman-Williams' offseason presence is now becoming less about optics and more about expectation. The talent has never been in question, but the next step for him and the Crimson Tide offense comes down to consistency, leadership, and being able to carry that work from May into the grind of the SEC each Saturday this fall. And if his time in Tuscaloosa this summer is any indication, Coleman-Williams isn't just preparing for a bounce-back year—he's positioning himself to help define the offensive ceiling of the Crimson Tide offense in 2026.
