If it's not broke, don't fix it. That's the message Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is giving to Ty Simpson this week ahead of Saturday night's showdown against Georgia. The redshirt junior QB doesn't need to do anything differently than he has the last two games. Be that guy, and Alabama will be in a good position to walk out of Athens with a victory.

Grubb was asked during his media availability on Monday what his message was to Simpson in preparing for Georgia.

"Just remember what made him successful the last two weeks," Grubb said. "That's just been, go from the ground up, great feet, discipline in your decision making, I think that's the biggest part for him."

After struggling against Florida State in his first career start, Simpson has been on fire the last two games. He completed 41-of-46 passes against UL Monroe and Wisconsin, completely ripping them apart. He has looked like a different quarterback, one totally in command and overflowing with confidence.

Those games were at Bryant-Denny and against opponents that did not pose a serious threat to beat the Crimson Tide, but his play is noteworthy regardless. Saturday night in Athens will be the true test of whether it has clicked for Simpson and if he has the goods to lead Alabama to the College Football Playoff.

Ty Simpson's biggest test awaits him in Athens on Saturday night

You can tell from the last couple of games that Simpson has put in the work and listened to his coaches to correct the issues he had against Florida State. Against the Seminoles, Simpson looked timid and unsure of himself, his protection, and his wide receivers. He bailed clean pockets, failed to set his feet, and waited to see his receivers open before unleashing the football.

Hopefully, Simpson has seen what happens when he does things the way he should. He's been getting his feet set, standing strong in the pocket, and trusting his talented wide receivers to run the right routes and get open.

No throw is a better example of it than the one to Ryan Williams at the very beginning of this video:

Wisconsin is getting a quick rush. Two weeks prior, Simpson probably immediately bails to his right to get away from the pressure. Instead, he stands tall in the pocket, identifies the correct read, and fires a pass to Williams as soon as he begins his break. He takes a shot, but delivers a perfect throw for a big gain to keep the sticks moving.

That's an NFL throw. It's as good as it gets. That version of Simpson is good enough to take Alabama the distance. They'll need that version of Simpson consistently on Saturday night and moving forward.

He'll have to answer the question of how he handles adversity. As good as he played the last two games, the Crimson Tide never had its back against the wall. Even if things go perfectly against Georgia, they will face adversity. The Bulldogs are too good for any other alternative.

How Simpson - and the rest of the team - responds to it will determine the outcome.
