Ryan Williams has a lot in store for his sophomore season at Alabama.

As a 17-year-old freshman a year ago, Williams was one of the most exciting players in college football. He routinely made highlight-reel plays that defied the laws of physics. His fourth-quarter touchdown catch and run against Georgia will be immortalized in Crimson Tide lore forever.

Williams got off to a record-breaking start last season. His first two catches in Alabama's season-opening win over Western Kentucky went for touchdowns. He caught six touchdown passes in Alabama's first five games and averaged 108.8 yards per game.

Williams' production took a decline from there, which coincided with widespread offensive struggles for Alabama. He averaged just over 40 yards per game over the season's final eight games, eclipsing 70 receiving yards in only one of those contests, and never again surpassing the 100-yard mark.

For the season, Williams finished with 865 yards and eight touchdowns, impressive marks no doubt for a kid who should have been a high school senior. But it wasn't good enough for his own standards, and it indeed appears he's only just scratched the surface of what he can become.

On a recent Twitch stream, Williams sent a message to his fans, stating that last year "wasn't nothing" and revealed he was dealing with a lot, of which he didn't elaborate on.

Ryan Williams is set to take an even bigger leap as a sophomore

There's a lot of justified hype around Williams as he enters his second season in the program. It shouldn't be discounted that this was his first full offseason in the Alabama program. He reclassified into the 2024 recruiting class, but couldn't enroll until the summer. That he quickly carved out a starring role in the Tide's offense speaks to just how talented the young playmaker is.

Now, with increased strength and conditioning, Williams should be better prepared to deal with the little nicks and bruises that come with playing at this level. Contrary to what some Alabama fans want to believe as they continue beating a long-dead horse, what Williams alluded to in the video was not poor QB play by Jalen Milroe.

He was likely talking about the fact that he wasn't 100% healthy down the stretch of the season, which was not exactly a secret.

Williams came to Alabama with ridiculous expectations. He far exceeded those as a freshman. Now, he'll look to make his freshman season look like a small step for the giant leap he takes in 2025.
