There's a tie at the top of the SEC basketball standings. Alabama and Auburn are now both 9-1 in league play, setting up a potential No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in Tuscaloosa on Saturday afternoon with College GameDay in town.
Auburn fell at home to Florida on Saturday afternoon and Alabama held on for a four-point road win at Arkansas. But was it enough to flip-flop the two at the top of this week's power rankings?
What about Florida? The Gators going on the road and beating Auburn is as impressive of a win as anyone has had in college basketball this season.
Let's take a look at this week's power rankings
SEC Basketball Power Rankings
16. South Carolina Gamecocks: 10-13 (0-10)
South Carolina had a week off and skipped the mid-week game. It didn't matter much as they faced off on the road on Saturday against a pissed off and motivated Kentucky team and felt the wrath of the Wildcats in an 80-57 drubbing. The Gamecocks remain winless in conference play and could be staring 0-18 in the face.
KenPom gives them a 31% chance of victory at home against Ole Miss on Wednesday, and only a 6% chance of beating Florida on the road on Saturday.
15. LSU Tigers: 12-11 (1-9)
Not far behind South Carolina in futility is LSU. The Tigers have just one conference win and they dropped both games this week. They lost by 19 at Georgia in the midweek matchup. They actually took a halftime lead at home against Ole Miss on Saturday - the first time that could be said for the Tigers in SEC play this season - but they still came up short in a two-point loss.
LSU goes on the road this week with games at Arkansas and Oklahoma.
14. Georgia Bulldogs: 16-8 (4-7)
Georgia really, really needed a big win on Saturday over Mississippi State. They came up just short in a 76-75 defeat at home. After starting 2-1 in SEC play, the Bulldogs have now lost six of their last eight games and the only two wins are against the two teams ranked lower than them in this week's power rankings.
Georgia has a quick turnaround on Tuesday in College Station against Texas A&M and then hosts Missouri on Saturday. They need to win one of those games or Mike White's bunch might be on the wrong side of the bubble.
13. Arkansas Razorbacks: 14-9 (3-7)
Arkansas had a shot at another big win on Saturday, but they came up short at home against Alabama despite a spirited rally down the stretch. John Calipari has figured some things out with the Hogs, though; that much is true.
Arkansas has a must-win game against LSU at home mid-week before a trip to Texas A&M on Saturday.
12. Oklahoma Sooners: 16-7 (3-7)
Most teams would have gone 0-2 with the slate Oklahoma faced this week. They had to travel to Auburn on Tuesday and then hosted Tennessee on Saturday. Two games against consensus Top 5 opponents makes things difficult. I'm sure Sooners fans would have liked to be a little more competitive, however. They lost by 28 at Auburn and by 18 at home to Tennessee.
Oklahoma goes to Missouri this week and then hosts LSU on Saturday.
11. Texas Longhorns: 15-9 (4-7)
It was a tough week for Texas after the Longhorns had built some momentum by winning three out of four. They had a horrific shooting performance in a home loss to Arkansas during the week and then they lost by eight on the road against Vanderbilt on Saturday.
The good news is that Texas gets two games in Austin this week. The bad news is they have to play Alabama and Kentucky.
10. Vanderbilt Commodores: 17-6 (5-5)
Vanderbilt's results this week were exactly what most expected: They lost on the road at Florida during the week and then knocked off Texas in Nashville on Saturday. Mark Byington has done a really good job with this team and the 'Dores are currently projected as one of the last four teams in Joe Lunardi's latest bracket projection.
If Vanderbilt can get to nine conference wins, it'll be hard to keep them out of the Big Dance despite a weak out-of-conference schedule. With Auburn coming to Nashville on Tuesday and then a road trip to Knoxville on Saturday, the 'Dores have a couple cracks at big wins.
9. Mississippi State Bulldogs: 17-6 (5-5)
Mississippi State really needed a win following back-to-back losses. They narrowly held on for a one-point road win over Georgia, but a win is a win. It's a key victory for the Bulldogs as the road doesn't get easier this week for Chris Jans' team. They get Florida at home and then travel to Starkville next Saturday.
Mississippi State is comfortably in the tournament right now as a projected 7-seed, but they've got to keep stacking wins or the bubble could be calling.
8. Missouri Tigers: 17-6 (6-4)
Missouri came into the week at 6-2 and alone in third place in the league standings. Two narrow defeats drops them back to 6-4. The Tigers pushed Tennessee to the brink in Knoxville, but fell 85-81. Wade Taylor IV drilled a game-winner in Columbia on Saturday for Texas A&M, sending Missouri to a second straight loss.
Missouri should get back on track at home against Oklahoma during the week before traveling to Athens for a big road game at Georgia.
7. Kentucky Wildcats: 16-7 (5-5)
Kentucky bounced back from a blowout road loss at Ole Miss littered with defensive breakdowns by rolling over SEC bottom-feeder South Carolina at Rupp on Saturday. Kentucky's defense is a legitimate concern and what will likely prevent Mark Pope's 'Cats from making a deep NCAA Tournament run. But Kentucky has the firepower to beat anyone when things are clicking.
Tennessee comes to Lexington on Tuesday and then Kentucky heads to Austin to battle Texas on Saturday.
6. Ole Miss Rebels: 18-6 (7-4)
Ole Miss had been teetering a bit following the win at Alabama in January. They lost four out of five after that, but bounced back with a 2-0 week. They beat up on Kentucky during the week and then avoided a letdown by holding off LSU for a two-point road win on Saturday.
The Rebels are favored in both matchups this week: a midweek road trip to South Carolina and a rematch with Mississippi State in Oxford on Saturday.
5. Texas A&M Aggies: 18-5 (7-3)
Don't look now, but Texas A&M has won three in a row and five out of six. The Aggies only had one game this week, but it was a big one. They went on the road and knocked off a really good Missouri squad on Saturday, 67-64, thanks to Wade Taylor's heroics.
At 7-3 in league play, the Aggies are very much alive in the SEC Championship race. They'll still get a crack at Auburn at home in March. This week brings two should-be-wins: home games against Georgia and Arkansas.
4. Tennessee Volunteers: 20-4 (7-4)
Tennessee earned a big win over Florida last Saturday and then won both of its games this week: a close win at home over Missouri and a rout of Oklahoma in Norman. The Volunteers still struggle at times on the offensive mind, but they're one of the grittiest teams in college basketball and are tough to beat.
The Vols go to Kentucky on Tuesday and then host Vanderbilt on Saturday. Winning the league title might be out of reach, but Rick Barnes' team is still right in the thick of the race for a No. 1 seed.
3. Florida Gators: 20-3 (7-3)
No team in college basketball has a more impressive win than what Florida did on Saturday. The Gators pulled off an improbable 90-81 road win over Auburn. The Tigers have been the best team in the country all season, and beating them on their home court is an insanely difficult task. Todd Golden's team signaled to the rest of the country that they should be considered a legitimate contender to cut down the nets.
We'll see if they can avoid a letdown in Starkville on Tuesday before what should be a relatively easy matchup at home against South Carolina next weekend.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide: 20-3 (9-1)
Alabama or Auburn for the top spot is a tough call. I think Auburn's resume is just slightly better than Alabama's. Both have one conference loss, and they both came at home. Florida is better than Ole Miss, though, and that works in the favor of the Tigers.
Alabama has won six in a row though. They had the week off before traveling to Fayetteville on Saturday. The Tide held a big second-half lead but ultimately had to hang on after a near disastorous collapse.
Alabama goes to Austin on Tuesday to face Texas before perhaps the biggest game of the season anywhere in college basketball with Auburn coming to Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
1. Auburn Tigers: 21-2 (9-1)
Auburn is still deserving of the No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll. You never want to lose at home, but Florida is a formidable opponent and its just the second loss of the season for the Tigers. Both defeats have come against teams ranked inside KenPom's Top 5.
We'll see if Auburn can bounce back on Tuesday at Vanderbilt. If they're looking ahead to the showdown against Alabama, the 'Dores could sneak up on them.
