It is possible that Week 11 will bring a surprise outcome for a couple of SEC football teams. That is possible, but not probable. Five SEC football teams have bye weeks. Another one, Ole Miss has the next closest thing, a 'buy game' against The Citadel.
In the five SEC vs. SEC games, the underdog could surprise, but don't bet on it. The best chance for an upset, would not be a major one. In Lexington, Kentucky could beat an injury-depleted Florida team. Otherwise the favorites should hold serve, no matter how tough the tussle.
SEC Football Games - Week 11
- Georgia (7-1) at Mississippi State (5-4) - The morning air will be filled with clanging cowbells in Starkville. Some computer models give the home Bulldogs a chance. While Kirby Smart's defense is not as stifling as in past seasons. Georgia can boast the most efficient offense in college football, as calculated by Brian Fremeau. Georgia may not be able to silence the cowbells, but a double-digit win is a sound prediction.
- Texas A&M (8-0) at Missouri (6-2) - The Tigers are forced to start true freshman Matt Zollers at quarterback. Zollers essentially has one game of college experience. He was better than adequate in a road loss to Vanderbilt, but the Aggies' defense is tougher than the Dores. Computer models project a competitive game. Missouri's defense might minimize the explosiveness of Marcel Reed, but not enough to secure a Missouri upset.
- Auburn (4-5) at Vanderbilt (7-2) - There is some buzz that Auburn will be quickly rejuvenated under interim, DJ Durkin. Diego Pavia is not likely to carve up the Auburn defense again. Auburn's problem is that an awful offense cannot magically bloom. Any doubts about the Dores should be diminished by the grit shown last Saturday in Austin. Vandy scored 21, 4th quarter points before losing by three to the Longhorns.
- LSU (5-3) at Alabama (7-1) - Freed from Brian Kelly and playing for revered interim Frank Wilson, the Bengal Tigers will put up a fight. The Crimson Tide must match LSU's intensity and play solid football. The better team should win, and that is Alabama.
After Week 11 games, one less SEC football team will be in Playoff contention: the Missouri Tigers.
