The first SEC Football Power Rankings of the 2025 season are due. Alabama Crimson Tide fans will find little (maybe nothing) to enjoy in the Week 1 rankings. Attack the messenger if it helps. Alabama's bleak situation calls for plenty of punishment.
First, what these Power Rankings are and are not. They are a subjective snapshot from 16 football games. They are not future-focused to project the strength of teams in late November.
Let's review SEC Football results from Week 1
- Missouri beat FCS Central Arkansas 61-6 in Columbia
- Auburn beat Baylor 38-24 in Waco. According to the ESPN FPI, Auburn is now No. 16 and Baylor No. 42
- At Ohio State, the Texas Longhorns lost to the Buckeyes 14-7. Texas remains No. 1 in the FPI and Ohio State No. 3
- LSU beat the Clemson Tigers in Clemson, 17-10. The Bengal Tigers are No. 10 and Clemson is No. 21.
- In Athens Georgia beat Marshall 45-7. The Dawgs are ranked No. 2 and the Thundering Herd are No. 93
- In Tallahassee, Florida State handed the Alabama Crimson Tide a 31-17 loss. Alabama Football slipped 10 spots in the FPI to No. 13. FSU is now ranked No. 40.
- At home Florida battered hapless LIU, 55-0. The Gators are ranked No. 12.
- In Norman, Oklahoma beat FCS Illinois State 35-3. The Sooners are ranked No. 22, dropping one spot after the win.
- In College Station, Texas A&M beat UTSA 42-24. The Aggies are ranked No. 14, dropping five spots after the win. UTSA is ranked No. 70.
- Ole Miss beat up on Georgia State in Oxford, winning 63-7. The Rebels jumped up six spots and are ranked No. 4. Georgia State is ranked No. 117.
- In Atlanta, Tennessee beat Syracuse 45-26. The Vols slid one spot to No. 9. Syracuse is ranked No. 67.
- On the road, Mississippi State beat Southern Miss 34-17. The Bulldogs are ranked No. 49 and USM is ranked No. 116.
- In Lexington, Kentucky beat Toledo 26-14. The Wildcats are ranked No. 43 and Toledo is ranked No. 83.
- Arkansas cruised by FCS, Alabama A&M in Fayetteville, 52-7. The Hogs are ranked No. 27.
- In Nashville Vanderbilt beat FCS Charles Southern 45-3. The Commodores moved up five spots and are ranked No. 44.
In Atlanta, South Carolina beat Virginia Tech, 24-11. The Gamecocks are ranked No. 11 and the Hokies are ranked No. 33.
