Week 7 changed the fortunes of many college football teams. From the standpoint of the traditional polls, the Alabama Crimson Tide was not one of them. Alabama Football struggled to beat the South Carolina Gamecocks but the win was enough for the Crimson Tide to hold on to the No. 7 spot in both polls.

In the AP Poll, Texas received 56 of the 62 first-place votes and 1544 points as No. 1. The Longhorns also received all but two of the first-place votes in the Coaches Poll. The Oregon Ducks gained the small number of other first-place votes in the two polls.

The big upward movers in the Coaches Poll were Army and Pittsburgh, with both teams moving up four spots. The largest bump up in the AP Poll was LSU. The Bengal Tigers moved up five spots after beating Ole Miss in Baton Rouge. The Ole Miss Rebels were the biggest loser in both polls. Lane Kiffin's team only lost in overtime, but the loss dropped them nine spots in the AP Poll to No. 18 and seven spots in the Coaches Poll to No. 15.

Ohio State did not suffer badly from losing to Oregon. The Buckeyes dropped two spots in the AP Poll to No. 4 and three spots in the Coaches Poll to No. 5.

Four SEC teams are in the top 10 of the AP Poll and five SEC teams made the top 10 of the Coaches Poll.
