Last season, inconsistent quarterbacking and offensive line performance, along with turnovers, dragged Alabama Football down to a four-loss season. The Crimson Tide was tied for No. 10 in the SEC with 21 turnovers, 11 by interceptions. In addition, Milroe had six fumble turnovers and shared responsibility for being sacked 23 times.

On Saturday, the Alabama football offense passed the first important test of the 2025 preseason. Speaking after Alabama's first scrimmage of Fall Camp, Kalen DeBoer stated the offensive line was "solid in pass protection." As exciting as that was to hear for Alabama football fans, DeBoer said something more significant: during the scrimmage, there were "no interceptions." He elaborated that during the eight August practice sessions, the three Crimson Tide quarterbacks have thrown only three interceptions.

Not from Kalen DeBoer, but from Alabama football insiders, Ty Simpson has zero interceptions, including 7 vs. 7 work. Given that Alabama is blessed with talent and experience in the secondary, Simpson's work so far has been exceptional. Alabama fans need no reminder that Simpson was a 5-star recruit, but a few Crimson Tide fans may have forgotten that Simpson's father is a football coach. For a quarterback, not making bad throws requires making correct reads. No one should be surprised that Ty Simpson has such skill.

DeBoer provided more detail about the August performance of the quarterback group, "The biggest thing with those guys, the quarterbacks, is they've done a great job, first of all, taking care of the football... The completion percentage over the course of camp for all three has been in that range we want. Would like to have a minimum of 65%." DeBoer also talked about Simpson and Mack having command of the huddle, and that Keelon Russell is learning quickly how to do the same.

Crimson Tide fans looking for a downside can question the defense whenever the Tide offense performs well. No such overreaction is warranted for an Alabama defense that is expected to be better than last season. A second Season in Kane Wommack's system should produce one of the SEC's top defenses.
