The Alabama women have done some special things this season, but it seems like every time things are rolling for the Tide, there is a disappointing setback. We saw it last month, losing to Auburn on the road after three straight wins, and saw it again this past Sunday evening in College Station, losing to the Aggies after a huge mid-week win over Ole Miss.
Now Kristy Curry's team has quite the gauntlet of a schedule, and the week preparing for Oklahoma at home is actually one of the easiest games, at least on paper. The Sooners really raised some eyebrows when they gave South Carolina their first conference loss, and it shows how good they can be when they are on.
The Tide has won three games against ranked opponents, and a win over No. 10 Oklahoma would be another signature win for this team. Jessica Timmons continues to be the star for this team and will be expected to provide a huge performance against Oklahoma if they are going to knock off another ranked team.
Hopefully, the crowd comes out in numbers the day after Valentine's, as I thought the crowd at Coleman for the Ole Miss game was disappointingly sparse. It will be important for both Essence Cody and Naomi Jones to stay out of foul trouble, as well as Carly Weathers to drop a few clutch baskets late.
After Sunday's game against the Sooners, three of the remaining four games come against South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Texas. The SEC schedule is a gauntlet with few breaks, so Sunday at home and then a game against Florida in Gainesville are the closest to breaks that remain. The chances of getting tournament home games seem unlikely at the moment, but the further this team gets above 20 wins in the SEC, and more ranked wins, can definitely help the cause.
