The race for the SEC Basketball Regular Season Champion is down to four contenders
The SEC Basketball regular season has not reached the halfway mark, but there are already only four clear contenders for the Regular Season Championship.
Florida Gators (18-2 and 5-2) - Average national ranking is No. 6 (6.4). The Gators have three tough road games in their next four. A 2-2 split will not knock them out of contention.
Tennessee Vols (17-3 and 4-3) - Average national ranking is No. 6 (6.2). The Vols have lost two of their last three by a total of three points. A trio of tough home games are next; Kentucky, Florida and Missouri.
Regular Season Champion Maybe Contenders
Texas A&M Aggies (15-5 and 4-3) - Average national ranking is No. 15 (14.8). The Aggies led Texas by 22 points on Saturday night - and lost.
Kentucky Wildcats (14-5 and 3-3) - Average national ranking is No. 19 (18.8). The Cats have injury concerns, with a trip to Knoxville next on the schedule. Mark Pope has done a great job in Lexington but the Wildcats are trending in the wrong direction.
Ole Miss Rebels (15-5 and 4-3) - Average national ranking is No. 21 (21.2). The future looked bright for the Rebels after their upset of Alabama Basketball. Three straight losses since suggest the upset of Bama was more fluke than the norm.
Mississippi State Bulldogs (16-4 and 4-3) - Average national ranking is No. 21 (21.4). The Bulldogs have two upcoming home games to strengthen contender status; Alabama and Missouri. If they lose both, maybe they are not contenders at all.
