Alabama football fans aren't the only SEC fans who would like to forget the 2025 postseason. The SEC stumbled badly in games against Power Four teams. Against Power Four, non-SEC opponents, SEC teams were 21-8 in the postseason.
The SEC's only win was the Texas Longhorns over Michigan 41-27 in the Citrus Bowl. Mississippi State, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, LSU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and Alabama lost to Power Four non-SEC opponents. Outside the SEC, the rest of the college football world relished what was described as the SEC's collapse.
Two Saturdays of college football have changed the tune. Through Week 2, the SEC is the only Power Four conference with a winning record against Power Four opponents. The SEC is 8-2. The eight SEC wins are: LSU 51 - Clemson 10; Auburn 17 - Baylor 16; Ole Miss 41 - Louisville 38; Missouri 38 - Kansas 21; Texas 24 - Ohio State 23; Texas A&M 48 - Arizona State 20; Tennessee 45 - Georgia Tech 24; and Mississippi State 38 - Minnesota 13. Missouri, the Vols, and State's Bulldogs won on the road.
The SEC's only two losses are Michigan at home beating Oklahoma 17-10, and Utah at home over Arkansas 43 - 10.
Power Fours lag behind the SEC
ACC teams are 5-6 against other non-ACC Power Four teams. Georgia Tech has two losses: 14-13 to Colorado and the Week 2 loss to Tennessee. LSU shockingly destroyed Clemson. Boston College lost to Cincinnati, Cal lost to UCLA, and Louisville lost to Ole Miss in Nashville.
Big 12 teams are 4-6 against non-Big 12 Power Four teams. Oklahoma State gained an upset win over Oregon, but the Cowboys also lost to Group of Six Tulsa. The Sic Big 12 losses are: North Carolina beating TCU, Auburn edging Baylor, Missouri beating Kansas, Texas A&M beating Arizona State, Iowa beating Iowa State, and Pittsburgh beating UCF.
So far, the Big Ten is the Power Four slouch of the season. The B1G has only three wins, along with seven losses to non-B1G Power Four teams. The Oregon loss to Oklahoma State shocked everyone, probably even most OSU fans. Probably a bigger shock was Rutgers losing to UMass in Week 1. Wisconsin losing to Notre Dame was no shock. In Week 2, Rutgers lost again to Boston College. Purdue lost to Wake Forest, Illinois lost to Duke, and Minnesota was embarrassed while hosting Mississippi State. AND the Biggie: in an Ohio State collapse and Texas comeback, the Horns beat the Buckeyes 24-23 in Austin.
Who says that winning does not 'mean more' in the SEC?
