Alabama fans will certainly be rooting for former QB Tua Tagovailoa as he looks for a career revival with the Atlanta Falcons.

The No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins, Tagovailoa went from being the franchise QB in Miami to being released in a span of just a couple of years. Life happens fast in the NFL.

After signing a one-year deal with the Falcons, Tagovailoa will look to beat out Michael Penix Jr. for the starting job in 2026. He's had a leg up in the competition due to the torn ACL Penix suffered in November of last year, which has kept him sidelined.

Tagovailoa has impressed Falcons teammates and coaches already, and if you ask one of his former teammates with the Dolphins, the Tagovailoa redemption story is a foregone conclusion.

"I know he’s going to go in there, he’s definitely going to win that spot," Patrick Paul said on Terron Armstead's podcast, via AL.com. "He’s a great player. So definitely rooting for him. I know he’s going to bounce back from what was last year, and he’s going to do his thing over there. So I’m waiting to see it. Waiting to see his bounce back, for sure. It’s all it is. That’s all it is. It’s just a bounce-back.”

Patrick Paul believes Tua Tagovailoa will 'definitely' win the Falcons QB job

Paul was teammates with Tagovailoa for two seasons in Miami, spending last season as the Dolphins' full-time starting left tackle. It's clear that the former Alabama superstar made a massive impression on Paul during their two years together.

“That’s my dog, Paul said. "As a person, love him. You know, for life, that’s my dog."

Paul will be rooting for Tagovailoa from afar as he looks to resurrect his career in Atlanta. Regardless of whether that happens or not, his legacy is always secured in Crimson Tide history.

Tagovailoa set the stage for the elite QB play Alabama has had virtually every season since. After a parade of game managers, Tagovailoa was a legitimate superstar at the position for the Crimson Tide. His 2nd-and-26 touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith to win the National Championship will forever be one of the greatest moments in Alabama history.

Injuries took their toll on Tagovailoa in the later stages of his Alabama career, and they certainly piled up during his time with the Dolphins. But he has shown, with proper talent around him, that he can still be a highly effective QB in this league.

He might get his opportunity to show it with the Falcons.
