Theo Von with hilarious side-eye dig on Nick Saban during Bama-Vandy pick

Overall Von's appearance was not well received, but that was funny

Theo Von's appearance on ESPN's College GameDay wasn't exactly a rousing success. Actually, who are we kidding? It was mostly a disaster. But even the worst movies will toss a one-liner that, for a second, will make you forget how bad everything else is.

Von, a former MTV Road Rules competitor turned successful podcast host and alleged comedian, had a great line about Kalen DeBoer's struggles last season, suggesting the second-year Bama coach was stuck with players from the previous regime.

""Kalen DeBoer lost to Vanderbilt last year, but he didn't have his players, he had the previous coach's players.""

Ok Theo...that was funny.

He went on to kiss up to the Tuscaloosa crowd, calling it the house that Bear Bryant built and Nick Saban remodeled, and then he went on to select Vanderbilt, saying that "they're my ride home."

It was the only intentionally funny segment during Von's appearance on the show. Earlier in the show he was part of an awkward segment with Jess Sims that probably came off a little meaner than it was attended.

Pat McAfee went to add that Von was the guest picker because "across the South and the entire United States of America, this man is a national treasure."

Ok America, I KNOW we can do better than that.

So why was Theo Von there again?

Von is a Nashville resident and a big Vanderbilt fan. He lives in the house that former Commodores coach Derek Mason once resided in and is friends with Vandy quarterback Diego Pavia. So there was a tie there and with the allegations of Von being funny, the producers of GameDay probably expected a few good moments.

ESPN may also have been under the gun here. Earlier in the show, McAfee mentioned that GameDay had planned to go to Tallahassee for the FSU-Miami game, but when the Seminoles lost to Virginia last Friday and the Tide beat Georgia on the road, the crew called an audible.

Still, with all that being said, wouldn't Miss Terry have been a much better choice?
