Has there ever been a time when Alabama fans thought a Crimson Tide loss was best for the program? Maybe during the Mike Dubose seasons. Possibly during Mike Shulas's tenure. If the old brick through the office window story is true, another time for at least one fan was when Bill Curry was the Alabama coach.
So far, no broken windows have been reported in Mike Norvell's office. FSU sites report that Seminoles fans are so disgruntled they may prefer an Alabama win on Saturday. Their desperation is such that any reprieve Norvell could get from an upset win would be unacceptable.
Norvell was loudly booed by FSU fans in Tallahassee, as SMU overacme four turnovers to beat the Noles. It is doubtful any of those fans will be in Tuscaloosa. If they are booing Norvell may happen again.
Based on the FSU sites Tomahawk Nation and Chop Chat, the Seminoles are done with Mike Norvell. Apparently, some FSU decision-makers agree with the sentiment. Mike Norvell might survive a blowout loss to Alabama on Saturday, but it would only delay the inevitable.
An Alabama win another net positive for FSU?
After FSU's loss to SMU, Curt Weiler wrote for Tomahawk Nation, "It’s also ok to admit, now that it’s over, that it was a net positive in the long term that the Seminoles didn’t win this game against SMU.
With how that game played out, the win wouldn’t have convinced anyone to hop back on the Mike Norvell bandwagon if they’re already off."
Weiler likely feels the same about a probable Alabama win. He provided one of 12 game predictions for the site. Only one picked FSU to win. Weiler's prediction is Alabama 42 - FSU 13. Ten of the other pickers also predicted a Crimson Tide win.
For days, the Chop Chat site has been discussing replacements for Norvell. One popular choice is Duke's Manny Diaz. FSU fans may be more worried about the next hire than about losing to Alabama. Reportedly, Jimbo Fisher wants the job. Chop Chat's Jarrett Guerrera wrote that his "head would explode if Florida State actually brings back Jimbo Fisher." Guerrera makes a good point. When a program pays around $75 million for someone not to coach, why would any program choose that coach as a new hire?
Of course, Jimbo would be an 'again' hire in Tallahassee, since he was once hired as an assistant and coach in waiting for Bobby Bowden's retirement. Jimbo's exit from Tallahassee for College Station did not result from a termination. But rumors were some FSU insiders had a good riddance attitude toward Fisher's departure.
