An Alabama Football team will be celebrated in Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday night. It will be the 1925 Alabama Crimson Tide team, rather than the 2025 Alabama team, that will win against Louisiana-Monroe.

There may be a smattering of empty seats in Tuscaloosa, but Alabama faithful will appreciate everything the Crimson Tide does well. However, for the Alabama program, a win over a lowly team is never the reason for a celebration.

On Saturday night, Alabama Football will honor 100 years of National Championships. The recognition will focus primarily on the Crimson Tide's 1925 National Championship team. A decade before the Poll Era began, the winner of the Rose Bowl Game was often defined as the best college football team. The game was presented as the best team from the west playing the best team from the east.

Alabama was not the first or even second choice to face Washington in the Rose Bowl. Other teams chose to decline an opportunity to travel across the country and lose to Washington. Alabama would finish the 1925 regular season with an undefeated record, outscoring opponents 277-7.

The Mark Mayfield quote in the tweet is one of many that made the same pronouncement about the Alabama win elevating Southern football. Later, retroactive national championships were awarded to southern teams, dating back to a co-championship for LSU in 1908. But it was the Crimson Tide that first broke the Southern Football glass ceiling.

Nationally, Alabama was given no chance to defeat the Huskies. West Coast reporters predicted the game would be a blowout. Wallace Wade's team was not in awe of Washington. The result was a 20-19 Alabama victory.

Wide Acclaim for Alabama Football

During the return train travel to Tuscaloosa, large crowds in southern states turned out to celebrate Alabama's stunning victory. In those transitory moments, thousands of fans of other teams reveled in Alabama's success.

Saturday night will offer the first look into the post-FSU prospects for the 2025 Alabama football team. It is unlikely much will be learned. No matter the score, it will not be a 'get right' game for the Crimson Tide. At 1-1, the Crimson Tide will have begun a tough climb back to what Alabama is supposed to be.
