This Alabama football team is undeserving of a playoff spot
Call me a bad Alabama fan if you want to but can we please stop talking about Alabama still having a shot at making the 12-team playoff? I get it they are still not mathematically eliminated but this team had everything in front of them against a bad OU team and came up empty.
There is absolutely no reason the Crimson Tide should be a part of the playoff field. They have three losses on the season and two of them I can't even say are quality losses. At this point, this team is playing for pride in the Iron Bowl and then after that a bowl game which will pretty much seem meaningless in today's college football world.
If this Alabama team wins the Iron Bowl as they should there will be plenty who say the Crimson Tide should be in one of the final playoff spots. They will point to wins against the likes of Georgia and South Carolina, but what about the bad loss when everything was on the line against the Sooners? This is not a good Oklahoma team and it makes me sick to think we could only put up three points against this team.
If we couldn't beat a bad team in Norman on the road, there is no way the committee should give an opportunity to go on the road in the playoff against a Penn State or Notre Dame team.
I know there will be plenty that will say oh Alabama could easily beat the Nittany Lions or Irish on the road but then why couldn't they beat a lowly Sooners team? For all the good quality wins on the season, the bad losses overshadow the accomplishments and this team doesn't deserve a spot in this year's playoff.
Hopefully, Coach Deboer will learn a lot from the end of this season, so the same mistakes aren't made when an SEC Championship Game and playoff spot are on the line in 2025 and beyond.
