Alabama released a lengthy injury report on Wednesday night ahead of this weekend's clash in Atlanta against Georgia, with the SEC Championship on the line.
The most surprising addition this week was star defensive lineman LT Overton, who was listed as OUT. There was no information immediately available on what happened to Overton. He spoke to the media after practice earlier in the week and seemed fine. Kalen DeBoer has a scheduled press conference later today, so clarity should be provided then.
Along with Overton being out, Alabama has three key offensive starters who were listed as questionable.
RB Jam Miller, TE Josh Cuevas, and LG Kam Dewberry are all questionable for the SEC Championship Game.
Miller left last weekend's Iron Bowl in the fourth quarter and was seen after the game on crutches. A questionable designation is better than most feared after the initial injury against Auburn.
Cuevas has missed the last two games with an injured foot he suffered in practice ahead of the Eastern Illinois game. DeBoer said earlier in the week that Cuevas was not expected to play against Georgia, so he has obviously taken at least a slight turn in the right direction to not already be ruled out.
Dewberry is a new addition to the injury report and another potentially unfortunate loss for the Crimson Tide. Alabama's offensive line has begun gelling with a 5-man front of Kadyn Proctor, Dewberry, Parker Brailsford, Wilkin Formby, and Michael Carroll. If Dewberry is unable to go, Geno VanDeMark likely slots in for him, but that is dependent on how much Alabama can get out of Brailsford, who has effectively been playing on one foot. VanDeMark saw quite a few snaps in the Iron Bowl at center.
If VanDeMark has to play some center, more shuffling could take place to insert either William Sanders or Jadeden Roberts into the lineup.
Jam Miller, Josh Cuevas, Kam Dewberry all questionable vs. Georgia
Dewberry's addition is unfortunate, but Miller and Cuevas being questionable is better news than most Alabama fans figured they would get from those two. I think most had already written the two seniors off for the SEC title game, assuming neither would be able to go.
The door seems slightly ajar for them to play.
With Miller questionable, Alabama's RB room is looking thin. Redshirt freshman Kevin Riley remains out with a broken jaw, leaving the Crimson Tide with only four healthy scholarship running backs. Redshirt freshman Daniel Hill would be in line to start and likely will play a prominent role regardless, but freshman AK Dear and senior Dre Washington could be called upon to play bigger roles than they've seen all season.
At TE, Danny Lewis Jr. is once again listed as questionable. He could be helpful, especially as a blocker if Cuevas is unable to play. If they are both out, look for Alabama to continue leaning on true freshmen Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett.
