It was a Happy Thanksgiving weekend for Alabama football. The Crimson Tide took care of business in the Iron Bowl for the fifth year in a row and put itself in position to sneak into the College Football Playoff.
Not to be outdone, the former Tide football players had a big weekend in the NFL in Week 13 as we approach the stretch run of the regular season. The touchdown streak for former Alabama players in the NFL extended to 97 consecutive weeks. It wasn't much of a sweat this week as Josh Jacobs took care of it on Thursday night.
Honorable mentions this week go to Mac Jones and Najee Harris. Jones came off the bench for an injured Trevor Lawrence and played well. He threw for 235 yards on 20/32 passing and a pair of touchdowns in Jacksonville's loss to Houston.
Harris put up 129 total yards and a touchdown as the Steelers knocked off the Bengals and took firm control of the AFC North.
They were just on the outside looking in this week. Let's take a look at the top five this week.
Top 5 NFL performances in Week 13:
5. Brian Robinson Jr.
Brian Robinson got the party started early on Sunday, busting a 39-yard touchdown run just three minutes into the Commanders/Titans game.
Robinson finished with 103 yards on 16 carries and added a catch for six yards. Washington rolled over Tennessee 42-19 to move to 8-5 as they push for the playoffs.
4. Mack Wilson
Mack Wilson is having a resurgent season with the Cardinals. Wilson was a fifth-round pick coming out of Alabama and had a good rookie season for the Browns. But some injuries and inconsistent play made him a reserve player the last few years.
Arizona gave him an opportunity to start and he has flourished. Although it was in a losing effort to Minnesota this week, Wilson had a big game. He finished with 7 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 QBH, and 1 pass defended.
3. Bryce Young
Bryce Young continues his complete 180 since returning from being benched early in the season. He once again put the Panthers in a position to win a football game but was let down by his teammates.
Young threw a touchdown pass with 30 seconds to play that put Carolina up 23-20 on the Buccaneers. Carolina's defense immediately allowed a game-tying field goal drive to send the game to overtime. Young pushed Carolina down the field to set up the winning kick, but Chuba Hubbard fumbled and the Bucs ultimately kicked the game-winner.
Young was 26/46 passing for 298 yards and a touchdown. He added 17 yards and a rushing touchdown on the ground. Over the last four games, Young has 858 passing yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception.
He looks like the franchise quarterback that was promised.
2. Tua Tagovailoa
It was another disappointing cold weather defeat for Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins, falling 30-17 in Green Bay to the Packers.
I'm sure people will find fault in Tua's performance somehow, but I don't know how. He threw for 365 yards on 37/46 and two touchdowns in the Dolphins loss.
The loss puts the Dolphins at 5-7, a hole that might be too big for Tua to dig them out of and get them to the postseason.
1. Jerry Jeudy
Unlike Auburn, Jerry Jeudy backed up all the smack talk he talked this week in the lead-up to his return to Denver for the first time since being traded to the Cleveland Browns.
Denver fans and the organization labeled Jeudy a draft bust and moved on from the former first-round pick despite porous QB play for the entirety of his time with the Broncos. As sad as it is, Jameis Winston in Cleveland is by far the best QB Jeudy has ever played with. And since Winston took over for an injured Deshaun Watson, Jeudy has flourished.
On Monday Night, Jeudy had the best game of his career. He caught 9 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in the 41-32 Browns loss. His 235 receiving yards is the most in NFL history for a player against his former team, breaking a record set by Hall of Famer Terrell Owens.
Since Winston took over as Cleveland's starter in Week 8, Jeudy leads the NFL with 581 receiving yards despite the Browns having a bye week during that stretch. He's now tied for fifth in the NFL with 880 receiving yards on the season and he's well on pace for the first 1000-yard season of his career.
