Top 5 performances for Alabama Football in the NFL Week 7
Former Alabama Football players continue to shine in the NFL, even if their alma mater continues to falter and look further away from the dynastic run of the Saban era than perhaps ever before.
An Alabama player has now scored a touchdown for the 91st consecutive week in the NFL. Again, I'm not sure what the record is, but that has to be it.
Narrowing down this list is a challenge each and every week and I always feel bad for guys that get left off. Brian Robinson Jr. had a good day for the Commanders as Washington won again. Will Reichard remains perfect as an NFL kicker, connecting on three field goals including a 57-yarder in a narrow Vikings loss to Detroit. Brian Branch continued to look like the best safety in the NFL and picked off a pass in the Lions win. Josh Jacobs scored the first receiving touchdown of his career and had over 70 yards rushing to boot.
They all narrowly missed being included this week, but these guys were the best of the best.
The Top 5:
5. Amari Cooper
The veteran Cooper was traded this week from the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills, and despite not knowing the entire Buffalo playbook, he made an immediate impact for his new team as the Bills rolled over the Titans to a 34-10 win.
Cooper caught four passes for 66 yards and scored a touchdown, showing quick chemistry with Josh Allen. Cooper is finally playing for a true contender, and might end up being the missing piece for the Bills.
Cooper should get more and more comfortable with the Bills in the coming weeks.
4. Marlon Humphrey
Marlon Humphrey has consistently been one of the best corners in the NFL since he debuted in 2017, but on Monday Night Football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Baltimore Ravens corner did something he had yet to do during his eight-year NFL career. It was his first career multi-interception game.
Humphrey is now second in the NFL in interceptions with four, behind only another former Crimson Tide player in Packers safety Xavier McKinney.
To make it all the more impressive, Humphrey picked both passes off in the first half and unfortunately had to leave the game with a knee injury late in the second quarter and didn't return.
3. Najee Harris
After a slow start to the season, Pittsburgh Steelers RB Najee Harris has come alive. In Sunday's 37-15 win over the New York Jets, Harris had his second consecutive 100+ yard rushing outing, and has quietly moved into 7th place on the NFL rushing list this season.
This might have been Harris' best two game stretch of his career thus far. Harris is becoming the closer for the Steelers, and is averaging a full yard-per-carry more in the second half of games than he is in the first half.
2. Jahmyr Gibbs
If you want to be a productive NFL running back, you should really consider going to college at Alabama. The Crimson Tide have produced elite players at the running back position, and a lot of them are showing out in 2024. It makes it all the more frustrating to watch Alabama's current struggles running the football on Saturdays.
Alabama currently has four of the top eight rushes in the NFL. Coming in at No. 8 is Jahmyr Gibbs, but he's only that low because he has 20 less carries than everyone else in the top eight. Gibbs had a big game on Sunday, and accomplished something for the Lions that not even Barry Sanders did.
Gibbs rushed for 116 yards on just 15 carries with two rushing touchdowns. He added 44 receiving yards on four receptions for good measure.
With David Montgomery, Gibbs has formed one of the most potent rushing duos in the NFL. But it becomes clearer with each passing week that Gibbs should be getting the bulk of the touches.
1. Derrick Henry
It was a quiet first half for Derrick Henry for the Baltimore Ravens against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. He had just four carries for 23 yards in the game's first 30-minutes, but Henry rarely stays quiet for long.
Henry broke an 81-yard run late in the third quarter and wasn't done from there. He finished the game with 15 carries for 169 yards and added a touchdown on a 13-yard reception from Lamar Jackson.
Henry is now the leading rusher in the NFL by over 200 yards and is back on 2000 yard pace.
